Canada’s Mental Health Week took place this past week from May 4th to May 10th and St. John Henry Newman was determined to show their support. Throughout this week, the Student Council organized various activities for students and staff to be involved in such as Green Shirt Day, Sidewalk Chalk Positivity Art as well as Poster Decorating. The amount of participation and submissions received was amazing to see. The Student Council also filmed an advertisement giving the facts about mental health and how we can help others as well as ourselves throughout the pandemic. During this COVID-19 pandemic, it is even more necessary for all of us to check-in on our family and friends as we need each other now more than ever.
This year, the CHMA (Canadian Mental Health Association) focused on one topic in specific; what does “I’m fine, thanks” really mean? May people say that they are fine when in actuality, they are going through many difficulties and challenges that we cannot see. If you feel lonely, sad, depressed, anxious or just need someone to talk to, please know that there is help. Reach out to a family member, a student, a staff member or many organizations who specialize in mental health relief. You are not alone.
